MERGIOL

Stranded on Earth after a catastrophic search party mission, Mergiol spends most of their time sulking and having arguments with the teenagers who got them stranded there. Since they have no means of returning home or sending a distress signal and no faith in their own ability to successfully integrate on Earth, they've adopted a very doom and gloom attitude about the whole situation and are convinced that they will be killed by bad weather, hostile Earthlings, or the teenagers they're stuck living with any minute now.

Mergiol is a character from a reboot RP taking place in Vreeza's universe - in Vreeza's main RP verse, they are unfortunately deceased. However, in this one, Ted was at Vreeza's house when the search party showed up and managed to disarm Mergiol, buying enough time for him to convince Vreeza to spare them. Because of this, they're now living at Vreeza's house along with Vreeza, Vreeza's best friend Ted, and Taylia, a young dragon that Vreeza and Ted found outside.

Since Vreeza provided them with their translator files for English, they share some of the same poorly calibrated settings and type similarly to Vreeza, but with far less enthusiasm. Vreeza also designed their disguise, which is why it looks like that. If they'd gone out and viewed humans themself and designed their own, they'd probably have a plain hoodie and jeans. Vreeza wrote "WARNING!!!!! BITCH ALERT!!!!!!" in hot pink text on the back of Mergiol's human disguise hologram jacket and they still haven't noticed.

Personality

Although they did not particularly enjoy it, Mergiol dedicated their life to their assigned job doing grunt work at the poorly run alien boarding school both they and Vreeza grew up at. The structure provided by being pushed around by their bosses was something they relied heavily on and are lost without. As a result of this, they're extremely bitter about being stranded on Earth, and they lack hope for the future. They can't go home now - since both their search party and Vreeza (the only people to visit in recent history) have gone missing under mysterious circumstances, Earth has been officially designated a death planet and no one from their planet is permitted to go there in the future.

Between the harsh climate, the alligators, the hostile government agencies, and the presence of the children responsible for their current predicament, Mergiol has determined that it is only a matter of time until Earth kills them. They deeply resent Vreeza for refusing to return to school and face the consequences of their failure with dignity, and to some degree, they resent Ted for saving them. They do not allow the people around them to forget how upset they are with the situation or how they feel about them on a personal level, and as a result they are generally a real pain to be around.

Despite how unhappy they are and how convinced they are that they will be killed, Mergiol still wants to live, and therefore they're constantly very afraid. This is something they're good at hiding, and they will typically just pretend that they are only angry about it and otherwise unbothered. Nonetheless, it puts them in a position where they are willing to make bad gambles to try to save their own skin, and are a serious flight risk in situations where group cooperation is important.

Mergiol does still have a sense of humor, albeit a bit of a mean-spirited one. Since they cannot accomplish anything meaningful, they will occasionally fuck around and see if they can cause problems on purpose for their own amusement. Despite everything, though, they ARE capable of caring about others - they'll probably eventually warm up to Vreeza and Ted, and they do not have any genuine dislike towards Taylia. Unfortunately, since they've determined that Vreeza's house is not a safe place for anybody right now and Taylia seems capable of surviving in the wild, they have decided that she needs to get out the house ASAP and never return. They have taken to repeatedly declaring that they dislike her in hopes of driving her off.

History

Mergiol spent their youth at a government-run school in a vast space station, and upon graduation, they still weren't able to leave. As their grades had been inadequate to be given a job as an engineer (their original field of study), they were instead assigned to work at the school they'd grown up at, heading out on search and rescue missions when necessary but mostly doing janitorial work. Although this wasn't what they wanted to do with their life and was certainly not fun, they did their best with it anyway, and eventually managed to convince themself that this was the best sort of life they could hope for.

One day, Mergiol was assigned what was supposed to be a fairly routine search mission. The school had finally managed to figure out where a long-missing student, Vreeza, had gone. Although Vreeza was presumed dead since it had been 3 years and they had left with only a few months' worth of food, the school wanted their expensive equipment back. Mergiol, along with a coworker, went to go pick up whatever remained of the ship and lab equipment.

Unexpectedly, Vreeza was alive, and had done a really poor job on their school project, particularly considering that it was meant to be done in a couple months and they'd now had 3 years to work on it. They'd also managed to make a serious mess of their ship, house, and lab - the equipment was unsalvageable because proper precautions for dealing with radioactive materials had been flagrantly disregarded. The interaction quickly became hostile, particularly since Vreeza refused to return to school.

When the search party tried to drag Vreeza home anyway, a shootout occurred, during which Vreeza managed to kill Mergiol's coworker. Fortunately for Mergiol, Vreeza's friend Ted was present at the time and managed to disarm them before they and Vreeza could kill each other. He then proceeded to convince Vreeza to spare their life since they were no longer a threat, although Vreeza did insist on demolishing their spaceship to prevent them from returning with reinforcements. Mergiol ran off into the swamp.

Without any equipment, Mergiol could not actually survive in the swamp. A few days after their confrontation with Vreeza, they returned to Vreeza's house asking for help. Initially, Vreeza slammed the door in their face, but once again Ted convinced them to have some mercy on Mergiol. Vreeza designed a human disguise for them and shared their translator files, and is currently allowing them to stay at their house. After all, there isn't anywhere else for them to go.

Mergiol mostly stays inside, complaining whenever given the opportunity. They do not like the food available on Earth - understandably, as it consists entirely of pet store crickets, Vreeza's dangerously haphazard lab-grown vegetables, and fish Ted caught outside - and they do not like living in a tiny one room house with people they have issues with (they're not allowed in the lab). They like going outdoors in the swamp even less. Nonetheless, they'll occasionally go outside for some fresh air or to get away from their roommates. As a result of this, they encountered an agent of the SPA, the shadowy group which has been sending SWAT teams to Vreeza's house - unarmed and with absolutely no faith in Vreeza's ability to fight these people off regardless of their own actions, Mergiol immediately agreed to act as an informant in hopes of securing better treatment. They feel a little guilty about this, but not as much as they would if they believed that there was any hope of keeping everyone safe in the first place.

One day, while out in the swamp, Vreeza, Ted, and Mergiol came across a young dragon named Taylia. The first time they ran into her, she did not trust the group and left quickly. Unfortunately, a week or two later, she stepped in a bear trap. Ted found her and brought her to the house to nurse her back to health. Mergiol was very upset by this development but couldn't explain why, since doing so would require revealing they'd betrayed everyone. Since Taylia is able to survive in the wild when she's not injured, they do not want to snitch on her, and every moment she is in the house without them doing so jeapordizes their own deal with the SPA. Instead of explaining that they're concerned for her safety, they are attempting to have her removed from the house by making a huge deal about her tracking mud in and attempting to exacerbate the arguments she has with Vreeza about GMOs.
